The Inner Sanctum...

 MY Favorite things........

You know how Oprah has the show of all her favorite things and then she gives them to her audience- well, I think she is having a show on Monday to do that and in honor of her, (I think she is an awesome woman) I thought I would post some of my favorite things. Sorry... guys and gals, you won't be getting gifts in the mail from me, unfortunately I'm just a poor white girl....I'll just send good thoughts your way instead...LOL!

Okay, here goes...

1. Sage & Citrus, and Clean Cotton scented Yankee candles.. they smell yummy!

2. A hot candlelit bath with Lavender minerals salts...forget Calgon... this is soooooo Relaxing!

3. Flannel sheets- there is nothing better than taking that hot bath then slipping between toasty flannel sheets on a cold winter night.

4. Curling up with a good book full of mystery, drama or hot sex.. favorite authors include Tami Hoag, Charlotte Vale Allen, Pat Booth, Stuart Woods, Rita Mae Brown, Shirley Conrad and Janet Evanovich.

5. TV shows- Survivor, LOST, Desperate Housewives, Gray's Anatomy, Ghost Whisperer, and CSI (the original one). A little tv never hurt anyone and it's entertaining.

6. My cameras- Kodak Easy Share 5 megapixels and my Minolta 35mm. Looking for a new one to combine my Minolta with the digital capacity because I am so hooked on digital now. Think I may have found one and can't wait to get it. I love photography -every aspect of it!

7. The L Word DVD Collection. A delightful satisfying romp to get lost in... juicy storylines and action. Can't wait to get my hands on Season 2.

8. Hiking in the woods on a crispy fall day hearing the crunch of leaves underneath my feet and breathing in the clean cool air. Listening and watching all of nature around me. My soul craves it...

9. Creating artwork. I love the process of getting an idea and making it come alive on canvas. It is very satisfying to get into it. I love using watercolors, pastels, clay for sculpting, colored pencils and oil based paints.

10. My computer- I just got my first computer last year and I am addicted to it. I mean, how great is this- a wealth of information at your fingertips any time any day any minute.

11. International Coffees- Chai Latte, Caramel Creme, Cafe Vienna, Hazelnut, French Vanilla..... I love em all!

12. Turkish Coffee Ice Cream- swirls of caramel interlaced in coffee flavored ice cream- to die for!

13. Cheesecake- any kind, any flavor.. hooked on The Cheesecake Factory deserts..!!!! You could gain ten pounds by sniffin it!

14. The Ocean- the sound of the roar of the waves crashing to shore. When you look out over the ocean and see infinity go on and on and on, you know you are looking at something magnificent. I love the scent the sound and the calming power of it.

15. The other spectrum- the Mountains- the Great Smokies to be exact- purple mountains majesty... the mystic haze, the beautiful vistas... close your eyes and you are transported there....ahhhhhhh.... I will live there someday in a log cabin in the woods...

16. Listening to my music with my headphones on- nothing like having surround sound to my ears with soul-ful beautiful melodies....mmmmmmm!

17. Native American drumming circle- the power and sound of the drum, and it's ability to ground me, calm me, and connect me to my heartbeat and Mother Earth.

18. Meditating- same as above- it's good for my soul and feeds it. When you look within you will know the answer.

19. Of course, Polarbears- obviously, because of my connection to them. My power animal and animal spirit guide.

20. And my absolute all time favorite thing is sitting by the firepit at night under the stars with the love of my life. Nothing better than looking up into the infinite sky and seeing millions of stars and a nice full moon, then gazing into the flames of the fire with the red hot hues and blues dancing and licking at the wood, to looking over into my girl's beautiful eyes and her smiling face and the touch of her hand. No words are needed- just enjoying the experience of just being there right in that moment.

These are a few of my favorites things......

 Route 66…Part 4

Route 66…Part 4

“Nobody moves a muscle unless I tell you to” the gunman told them in a cold calculating tone. Everyone had complied with his orders so far, but regardless of that, they still felt threatened by his presence. He was an imposing man standing about 6’2” and about 210 pounds with a clean cut shaven face and not the typical stereotype you would suspect as a thief.

BJ gave a quick glance to the other patrons; the young couple was stunned and appeared shaken by this sudden turn of events. They were huddled together on the floor. The two older gentlemen were giving each other glances and she hoped they would not try anything stupid, which made her quickly look towards the bathrooms where the drunken guys were. The food had helped to absorb most of the alcohol out of their systems and they looked like they had sobered up a bit. Hopefully they would have the mind to keep their mouths shut. BJ looked over at Meg who had the oddest look on her face.

Earl was standing by the counter with his hands in the air. “I don’t want any trouble here son. You can take whatever’s in the register and be on your way. Nobody needs to get hurt here.” The gunman laughed out loud as if he found that to be the funniest thing he ever heard. He turned dead serious in a flash, “I’m not here for your money old man. I’m here to take something back that was mine.”

BJ heard Meg give out a gasp and looked at her. All the color had drained from her face and she had a look of terror. Suddenly, it was beginning to make sense to BJ. She hoped for Meg’s sake she was wrong. BJ looked back towards the gunman who had a look of pure evil, it was something in his eyes that gave BJ the feeling that something terrible was about to happen.

He looked straight at BJ and walked slowly towards her. She held his gaze as to not let him she that she was afraid. As he approached, he let his eyes wonder over her body and when he was directly in front of her, he reached down to caress her face with the back of his hand, “I would certainly enjoy having you, but….it will have to wait until another day…” She pulled away from his touch.

He turned towards Meg who was trying her best to hold back the tears. He inched closer until he was towering over her. From her position on the floor, she looked up at him with tears streaming down her face and said, “I am not going back with you.”

In a sudden movement he yanked her up by her hair and pulled her close to his face. She could feel his breath against her skin. “Now, now, is that any way to treat your husband after all these years?” She gritted her teeth as she spoke, “I would rather die right here and now than to spend one moment with you.” Then she spit in his face.

In that second, every person in the diner stopped breathing as they looked on with astonishment and wondered what the hell was going to happen now. BJ watched in horror and her mind was racing trying to think of something, just anything to stop this madman from hurting Meg and all of them for that matter.

He wiped the spit from his face and smiled. “You’ll pay for that my dear, but if you think I came all this way just to kill you, then, you better think again. No…. we’ve got a lot of catching up to do.” He laughed as he gripped her tighter and whispered in her ear, “I’ve been waiting a long time for this day to come…” He ground himself up against her. “Can you feel how excited I am to see you?” Meg tried to push him away.

BJ spoke up, “Let her go.” He looked towards her, “I don’t think so. After all, I’ve been tracking her for the last couple years and watching her every move. Our vows said ‘till death do us part’ and I am taking her back with me, one way or another.”
BJ was angry now, “Well, your vows didn’t say it was okay for you to beat your wife, now did they?” He grimaced. “Well now… so she’s been talking huh, and telling the family secrets?”

He spun Meg around and back handed her across the face. Startled by his actions, Earl rushed forward to Meg but before he got to her, a shot rang out. Meg’s husband fired the gun and the bullet caught Earl in the shoulder knocking him off his feet. The young girl in the corner screamed and started crying.. BJ jumped back and immediately went to Earl’s side checking to see how bad it was.

Meg’s husband waved the gun around, “Anyone else want to try to be a hero?” he asked.
He grabbed Meg and shoved her towards the counter area. “I think since you want to share everything about us with everyone, I should let them see just what a whore you are and let them watch you beg for mercy.” He shoved her face down on the counter and was tearing at her clothes. She started fighting and as he was trying to restrain her he didn’t notice that a cop came in the door with his gun drawn until it was too late.

“Put your hands up in the air and drop the gun!” the officer screamed. In a split second Meg’s husband looked at the officer and reacted by bringing his gun up. A second shot rang out but this time it was the gunman who had been shot square in the chest. It only took a moment as a look of confusion crossed his face before he fell to the floor.

Within minutes, the small diner was crawling with police. The paramedics came and took Earl out on a stretcher and Meg’s husband out in a body bag. The local cops were getting everyone’s statements. Apparently, one of the truckers outside woke up and noticed something was amiss in the diner. He got on his radio and immediately help was on the way. The cruisers pulled up as the first shot rang out that got Earl.

Meg sat down at the counter after giving her piece of the statement and tried to make sense out of what had transpired. What bothered her most was that he had been there watching her all along and she didn’t even realize that the danger was so close.
BJ came over to see how she was doing and Meg excused herself and ran into the bathroom. Once she got behind the closed door, she finally broke down and let it all out.

BJ knocked softly on the door. “Hey, I need to know if you are okay in there.”
Meg replied through her tears, “No, I am not okay.” “Will you let me in?” she asked.
BJ heard the click of the lock, opened the door and stepped inside.

“You’ve been through a lot tonight; I didn’t want you to be alone.” BJ said softy.
“But I am alone.” Meg cried. “No, you’re not, I’m here.” She reached over to Meg and held out her arms, “Come here.” Meg went into BJ’s arms and held onto her tight.
“That’s it, let it out….”she whispered. She held Meg for a while as she cried and she gently stroked her hair and soothed her.

After a few moments, Meg composed herself and looked up at BJ. “Thank you. It feels really good to be held in your arms and have that human touch.” She looked into BJ’s eyes. “You make me feel safe, BJ…” Meg gently leaned forward and kissed her lightly on the lips. They were so warm and soft.

BJ felt such tenderness and at the same time it felt like electricity was surging through her body. She hadn’t felt those feelings in a very long time. It surprised her. “Meg, you’ve been through a trauma…you’re not thinking straight.”

“I know that I felt comfortable with you from the moment you walked in…” she said.
BJ chuckled, “Well, being comfortable with someone and kissing someone is two different things entirely.” “You’re just scared BJ, and to tell you the truth, I am too a little bit, but it’s okay…. I… I just don’t want you to leave.”

BJ sighed, “I can’t stay Meg, I have to get this load to California by the end of the week.”
Meg looked down at the floor, “That may be true, but you won’t admit the real reason is because you’re afraid to open yourself up again to something that might just be wonderful. I know you felt the same thing I did in that kiss.”

Dammed to hell, if the girl wasn’t right, BJ thought. She had hit the nail right on the head. “Okay…You got me there….” She countered, and then BJ took Meg in her arms and gave her a real kiss. The kind of kiss that’s slow, sensual and passionate and it makes every part of your body come alive and leaves it wanting for more.

“Come with me, Meg.” BJ said still holding her. “Okay.” Meg said, as simple as that.

Before they set out for California, they got well deserved full nights sleep in a local motel. A good hot shower and clean clothes followed by an early morning breakfast at another restaurant.

Meg was leaving everything behind considering she didn’t have much anyway. She had no idea that she would soon inherit everything including the beneficiary money from a five million dollar insurance policy.

BJ, well, she was behind the wheel of her rig and on the road again, watching the most beautiful sunrise she ever saw in the horizon. Glancing over at Meg, she wondered what the possibilities were for this relationship to work. She didn’t know where it would end up but she was willing to try.

Earl would open the diner back up as soon as his gunshot wound healed. His place was now of course the talk of the town. Of course, there’s always some kind of excitement when you’re traveling along .......Route 66.

 Route 66 …Part 3

Route 66 …-Part 3

BJ spun around on the twosome. “You got a problem?” she glared, her jaw set tight.Flannel shirt guy stood and sized her up. He wasn’t above hitting a woman, had done it a few times. BJ stood her ground, facing him. She didn’t blink an eye. “I said, you got a problem, Pauley?”

From behind her she heard, “He’s going to have a problem... If he wants this food he better sit down and shut up.” The waitress had a tray full of food she was bringing to the table. Pauley started to protest but she cut him off in mid sentence. “Unless you want your order dumped in your lap and both you boys kicked out in the rain, I suggest you play nice play before I decide to call the cops and have you arrested for public drunkenness.” That shut them up. Overalls eyed the food and replied, “Aw, she ain’t worth it Pauley. She’s a dyke anyway and don’t know how to have fun with a couple of good ole boys like us.”

BJ still standing in the same spot watched as their interest went from her to the food. She glanced at the waitress who gave her a quick wink and she walked back to the counter to take her seat. She was glad it hadn’t escalated because she wasn’t in the habit of getting into fights and she was tired and hungry right now. That’s not to say she hadn’t been in her share of scrapes, she would fight to protect herself but she wasn’t the type to just start shit with someone. She had always been lover, not a fighter.

The dark haired waitress went into the kitchen with the cook and BJ could hear bits and pieces of a tense discussion. “Earl, I put up with this crap day after day and you sit back here and don’t do a thing to stop it! You should grow some balls and throw them out on their ears. Those types cause nothing but problems.” BJ watched as Earl shooed her away as if to dismiss her. “They are paying customers and they’re the reason you get paid, little girl, you should remember that and treat them boys a little nicer, maybe you’d get bigger tips.” He grimaced. “Now take this food out there to that girl.” He nodded in BJ’s direction as he shoved the plate at her. “God, I hate you.” She sighed. “Yeah, well that’s alright with me, now get back to work.” He grumbled.

BJ noticed that a young couple was practically making out in the corner on the other side of the diner. An older gentleman sat reading his newspaper while another man was halfway nodding off after getting a full belly. Everyone seemed to be in his or her own little world. The waitress set a plate in front of her with a big juicy cheeseburger on it with a side helping of chips and pickles. It looked good and smelled even better. BJ noticed the waitress’s nametag and asked quizzically, “ME?” “Oh, it’s supposed to say Meg, but the G didn’t take very well and it’s barely readable, so it just says, ME.” She smiled showing a set of perfect pearly whites. BJ noticed she wasn’t half bad looking, she guessed her to be about 5’5” a tad shorter than herself. Meg Adams had long, straight auburn hair that was held back in a sporty ponytail. Brown eyes and smooth olive skinned complexion. Basically fit and trim with nice legs from what she could tell, not that she was looking or anything, but BJ appreciated a good-looking woman when she saw one.

Meg looked over at her other patrons and seeing that they didn’t need anything, she poured herself a cup of coffee and took a seat beside BJ. “God, it feels good to get off my feet.” “Long day?” “Yeah, a double shift… Too many of them these days, and I hate this job, but it helps me get by.” “I don’t know how you do it. I’d lose my patience the first day, especially with that kind.” BJ said as she nodded towards Frick and Frack.

“Yeah, well at least the bulls are grazing…” she whispered. She focused her attention back to BJ. She watched her dress her cheeseburger with mustard and take a big bite.
“Good?” “Umhumm” Shaking her head yes and gave thumbs up. “Yeah, old Earl ain’t much but he sure knows how to cook.” BJ continued eating while Meg took a sip of her steaming coffee.

“What’s your name?” she asked. “BJ” she replied. “Well that’s short and sweet, does it stand for something?” “Yeah, Bobbie Jean, but only my momma used to call me that.”
“You drive a big rig?” she asked. “Sure do.” BJ said between bites. “How long have you been doing it?” She held up two fingers. “About two years.” “What made you…” she trailed off. “Oh I’m sorry, here I am asking you all these questions while you’re trying to eat. BJ took the last bite of her burger and said, “No, it’s alright.”

Focusing on her chips now, she glanced at Meg. “What about you? What brought you here?” Meg turned more towards BJ, “Well, that’s a long story, but I’ll give you the short version.” Interested, BJ leaned in to listen. “Well, I got married too young to a man I thought I knew. Unfortunately for me, he slowly changed and became controlling and abusive. It got pretty bad towards the end and I barely made it out with the clothes on my back.” She paused as if the thought of those times made her skin crawl. “I moved around for a while, crossed about seven states lines and ended up here. Earl lets me stay in a trailer in the back for low rent and I help him out by working here until I can move on. Believe me, it wasn’t my dream to end up in this dive, but my ex would have killed me, had I stayed.”

BJ could tell by the look on Meg’s face that she had been through a lot and she was glad to know that she had been able to escape. Nobody deserved to be treated like that. Meg broke the silence between them. “What about you, you got someone back home?” she asked. She saw a look pass over BJ’s face and wondered if she’d hit a touchy subject.
She got up and went around the counter and set a slice of cherry pie in front of BJ. “It’s on me, and you don’t have to answer that if you don’t want to.”

“Thanks, it looks good. I used to have someone… It’s just that I haven’t talked about her in a long time.” BJ paused and tasted the pie. It was delicious and homemade like her momma used to make. She went on, “I, like you, thought she was someone else. Turns out I didn’t really know her at all. We were together for three years and the whole time she had been cheating on me from day one. The ultimate betrayal came when I walked in on her and my best friend in our bed. I didn’t have a clue, and it cut me to the bone.”

“God, that must have been awful for you.” Meg reached over and touched BJ’s hand. Something caught Meg’s attention outside and she started to say something else but it quickly faded from her thoughts.

Outside the diner, a car had pulled up and a large frame man got out and hurried in the door. BJ turned around just as he said in a loud voice. “Alright. Everybody down on the floor and you won’t get hurt.” He had a gun pointed at them and yelled to the cook, “Old man, put your hands up and get out here where I can see you.”

 Route 66 .. Part 2

Route 66 – Part 2

She shook her close-cropped hair and weaved her fingers through her hair to comb back the loose wet strands. BJ McGillis was a fine looking specimen. Blond hair with a hint of natural curl buzzed in the back up her neck into a neat wedge cut, and short on top and sides. Tanned and slightly muscular, not manly looking, but just well defined from lifting weights that she kept in the bed of her rig. She liked keeping her body in good shape and often worked out in the hotel fitness centers wherever she stayed for a few days reprieve before she hit the road again.

Butch, but not hard edged like some of the diesel dykes she saw on the road. Those were the stone butches and BJ was much softer than that. Her sapphire blue eyes checked out the other diehards in the diner, no doubt waiting out the rain too. Six customers in all, a few who also checked her out before resuming their meal and hushed conversations.

She decided to take a seat at the empty counter, a few paces away from the register. She slid onto the red cracked vinyl stool, which creaked with the weight of her body. There was a greasy looking old man behind the grill- most likely owner and cook. He looked a bit shifty but it could have been the scraggly beard and uncombed hair, what was left of it. He glanced her way then hollered; “Order up!” to the lone waitress who was standing next to one of the booths in the far back. BJ could tell she was busy trying to get the order from two drunken stooges who reminded her of Larry, Darrel and Darrell, except there were only two of them. She heard their bawdy laughter as one of them tried to grab the waitress’s ass as she walked away.

The waitress stomped back up behind the counter and muttered, “Fucking assholes!” under her breath as she glanced at BJ. She gave the cook their order and turned back to BJ. “Sorry about that, but jerks like that just piss me off thinking they can put their filthy paws all over me.” BJ smiled, “No need to apologize, I’ve heard worse and it’s not like I have virgin ears.” The waitress chuckled. ‘Well, by the looks of you, it doesn’t look like the rain is letting up any,” as she checked her over. “I thought maybe the rains would cool things down a bit, but it looks like the rain is just creating a steamy sauna out there. The air conditioning isn’t great in here, but it’s better than out there.”

“Can I get you something cold to drink?” she asked. BJ responded,”Yeah, a Coke is fine. I will have a cheeseburger too while you’re at it… You got a john in here? I‘m still pretty wet and I could stand a little freshening up.” The waitress smiled, “Sure Hon, it’s in the back to the left and I’ll go ahead and get your order started.” She pointed in the drunk’s direction.

BJ got up and strode past the twosome. “Looks like we got ourselves a wet tee-shirt contest, Pauley boy! I didn’t know this dump had live entertainment.” The bigger one said. The skinny dude in the dirty flannel shirt stood up and gyrated his hips in a lewd manner like a dog humping a leg. They fell into fits of laughter as BJ mumbled, “Jerks!” as she went into the bathroom and locked the door.

It was a no frills bathroom, about the size of a large broom closet, with a disgusting toilet that she wouldn’t be sitting on, and a yellow stained sink that had a constant drip. She quickly relieved her bladder and washed her hands with water since there was no soap and no paper towels either to dry her hands. At least there was toilet paper, she was thankful for that. A quick check in the mirror told her she looked tired and needed a good hot meal and some sleep. She planned on resting up in her cab bed once she filled her belly. She hoped the food was halfway decent, sometimes you got lucky and the food was great in these little joints along the highway that was popular with the truckers.

On the way out one of the guys asked her “Hey, can you spare a little pussy?” She gave them a disgusted look and said, “ Why don’t you get a life, you inbred ingrate.” Flannel shirt guy busted out laughing, “I guess that means no, then?” The one in the ripped denim overalls said, “Not only did she cut you down, but I think she just called you a name. Whatchu gonna do about that?”
